Description
Kick off your middle school social studies year with a high-impact, low-prep lesson on the foundations of ancient civilizations. Designed for use with Microsoft Office, this 60-minute lesson is perfect for the first week of school. It blends critical thinking, collaboration, and humor to help students explore what makes a civilization—and why it matters.
Students will engage with a Horrible Histories video, collaborate on a “Civilization or Not?” group sort, and analyze early human artifacts to build historical thinking skills. Activities include sentence starters, visual supports, and flexible formatting to support diverse learners, including ELs and students with IEPs.
