Description
Transform your classroom community this October with Pick Your Poison—a high-energy, inclusive “Would You Rather” game built to ensure every student has a voice. Designed by a special education teacher, this resource moves beyond simple “fun” to provide a structured, scaffolded social-emotional learning (SEL) experience. Whether you’re looking for a quick 5-minute morning meeting opener or a full 45-minute social skills lesson, this resource is your go-to Halloween staple.
Why Teachers Love It:

Universal Design for Learning (UDL): Built-in accommodations include visual sentence stems, non-verbal participation icons, and clear voice-level anchors on every slide.
-
K–12 Versatility: Includes “Scale It Up” teacher notes to adapt debate prompts for older students (7th–12th grade) without needing new graphics.
-
Standards-Aligned: Aligns with SEL Competencies (Self-Awareness, Social Awareness, Relationship Skills, Responsible Decision-Making) and ELA Speaking & Listening Standards.
-
No-Prep Implementation: Just project and play. Includes a professional implementation guide for easy sub-plan integration.
Inside the Resource:

10 Spooky, age-appropriate Halloween debate prompts.

Teacher Implementation Guide with 5-minute and 45-minute lesson variations.
-
Built-in scaffolds (Sentence stems, Timer/Voice level icons, Non-verbal choice markers).
-

How to Use This Resource:
-
The 5-Minute Morning Meeting: Project one slide during your arrival or transition time. Read the prompt, give 10 seconds of silent think time, and have students use their A/B cards to share. Use the “I choose… because…” sentence stem to wrap up the conversation in under 5 minutes.
-
The 45-Minute Lesson (Step-by-Step):
-
Part 1 (10 mins): Introduce the game using the “How to Play” slide. Practice with one non-spooky prompt so students get comfortable with the participation expectations and voice levels.
-
Part 2 (20 mins): Run the full deck of 10 prompts. Use the “Scale It Up” teacher notes provided on each slide to facilitate a deeper class debate.
-
Part 3 (15 mins): Use the final 15 minutes for a “Reflection & Write.” Have students pick their favorite choice from the day and write a 3–5 sentence paragraph explaining their decision, using the sentence stems as a starting point.
